Exclusive Music

Hoodlums is lucky enough to be involved with a group of indie stores across the country that work hard to score exclusive releases on CD, DVD, and Vinyl.  We do this to battle the corporate giants that use our passion and love (meaning the stuff we sell) as a loss-leader to sell microwaves.

Three surfers remember that indie stores are there for artists.

Pearl Jam, The Bens, and three surfers have provided three of our coolest exclusives.

Because there are lots of artists that understand the importance of the indie record store, there have been a ton of artists that have gotten involved.  We thank each and every artist and stubborn independent store owner that helped. So many that we can’t possibly list ‘em all here – or my head would explode from inputting links, etc.

Think Indie - Info on Indie Exclusives sold by HoodlumsLuckily, we’ve got the Think Indie website to help us.  If you see something on there that you like, visit Hoodlums – and we will gladly sell it to you.  To help you decide what to buy when you get to the store, we will list some of the newest, coolest, and best-selling ones. If you want more info on the specific titles we are championing, click on the picture and details will come up.

New Arrivals on CD

New ones come out all the time, and the Think Indie site lists all of them, but we like to focus on the ones that are right for our customers (translation: we think they will sell).

Jose Gonzalez, Matt Nathanson, and Ben Kweller have all delivered indie exclusives.

More recent releases:

We played basketball with Widespread Panic after the show.

... he sings too.

STS9 - Tasty, good, and new Roky Erickson - Live 79-81

Josh Ritter is another guy that works good with indie stores. MC Chris is Dead (call Terry)

Live Interpol EP Burning Spear - Jah is Real

Freedy Johnston - Extra e, Do not forget the t.

If you want to see the exclusive DVDs, look on Think Indie, or our DVD exclusives page.

Exclusive Vinyl

Howdy partners - my record is red. Jazz on vinyl. Mmmmm. Odelay-e-who. Beck is on vinyl.

In 1995, who would have thought we’d be peddling vinyl in 2008?  Pretty amazing.

Indie record stores are a huge part of vinyl’s resurgence. That’s no surprise, since the indies are actually with the customers, listening to their needs and reacting accordingly. So I’m sure there’s no surprise that we have started securing vinyl exclusives as well.  Here’s a few of the key records – there’s more on Think Indie.

TV on the Radio Sigur Ros vinyl

Radiohead Vinyl Ben Harper vinyl

Minus the Bear vinyl Gnarls Barkley on vinyl.

Harvey Milk on double vinyl

Recorded In-store Performances

The artists below were cool enough to an in-store at a local indie record store… and then let the indie stores release the CD (or DVD).  Is that cool, or what?  Being a “select” indie store, we just happen to have those CDs.

Steve was at this Pearl Jam show! Ben Harper - Indie Exclusive

Brandi Carlile at Easy Street Are all these shows at Easy Street or Twist?

Damien Rice - Live at Fingerprints Hold Steady at Fingerprints
